One more state capitol and a museum

Decided we want to see more places so we left Nashville for Raleigh North Carolina to see if it is a possibility for our list of places to live.  It is quite lovely and we were favorably impressed.

North Carolina capitol building in Raleigh.  Inside we found a plaque dedicated to Virginia Dare, born in 1587 on Roanoke Island, the first English child born in the British Colonies.

We made a stop in Dayton, Ohio and visited the National United States Air Force Museum.  They have a wing dedicated to World War II and here's two things of note we found.

B-24 Liberator bomber, the same type of plane my dad and his brother piloted with the 8th Air Force out of England.

A replica of a typical control tower built at the war time bases in England.

This is sort of the end of the Homeless Tour Phase 1

We have been living out of a suitcase for about seven weeks and have decided we need a break from that.  We have also decided we need a home base to operate from.  We have returned to Milwaukee where we will rent an apartment downtown and take shorter road trips to see the rest of the state capitols, sights and potential homes in subsequent phases of the tour.

We can be contacted at bbayorgeon@gmail.com  414-559-1436 for Bette
                                      7a1962@gmail.com 414-704-1436 for Bob

We will update the blog as new events occur.

Capitols of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland

The New Jersey capitol building in Trenton, the second oldest in the nation.

The Pennsylvania capitol building in Harrisburg - a lovely building.

The room in the Maryland state capitol building in Annapolis where George Washington resigned his commission at the end of the Revolutionary War.  Maryland is the oldest state capitol in the nation.

The exterior of the Maryland state capitol building in Annapolis.  Annapolis is a lovely city with the Naval Academy and the capitol.

The last of state capitol buildings for this phase of the homeless tour.

Gettysburg

Gettysburg National Cemetery Soldiers' National Monument near the site where it is believed Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg address at the dedication of the cemetery in November, 1863.

The Dwight Eisenhower farm and home National Historic Site in Gettysburg.

Back to Nashville

We have decided to head back to Nashville and spend some time there and find out if this is a possibility of a place to live.

Will keep you informed as we progress on our journey.

Some State Capitols, Boston and Long Island

New Hampshire State House in Concord.  Saw a portrait of Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Church of Christ Scientists, the religion that Bob was born into.

Massachusetts State House in Boston.  So much history, so many familiar names from American history.

The John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.  Also, a special exhibit on Ernest Hemingway - 90% of his papers and manuscripts are at the library.

While in Boston had lunch with my cousin Jim - good to catch up with family.

The Rhode House State House in Providence.

The State House of Connecticut in Hartford.

The Genius of Connecticut, a statue in the capitol at Hartford.  She is the symbol of the spirit of the people of Connecticut.

Sagamore, the summer White House of Theodore Rooselvelt in Oyster Bay, Long Island.  Like all presidential residences and libraries that we have seen, the history is so compelling.

You may be a little tired of state capitols - there are only three more on this phase of the tour.  Tomorrow on to Gettysburg.

Augusta, Maine to Kennebunkport, Maine

Stopped at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and Shaw's Lobster Co-op for lunch.  Then on to Kennebunkport where we stayed for three nights at the charming Old Parsonage Guest House.  Were able to do some sightseeing and relax.  Next stop:  the New Hampshire capitol in Concord.

State House of Vermont at Montpelier

State House of Maine in Augusta

Many of the state capitols we have visited are undergoing much-needed renovations.  Good to see that they are taking care of these treasures.

Niagara Falls and State capitols

Nashville to Niagara Falls Ontario with a stop in Cincinnati to visit my cousin Bobbie and her husband.  Always great to see family.

Canadian falls in the morning.  Nothing else to say.

Then a few state capitols.  We visit the capitols as we travel and have now seen over half.  It's interesting to see the different styles and read about the history that each state is proud of.

From Milwaukee to Nashville

Started the Homeless Tour on Thursday August 25th by checking into a hotel in downtown Milwaukee located in the old Gimbels department store.  Closed on the sale of our house on Friday the 26th.  Bittersweet - lived there for over 30 years.

Spent Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th with friends in Madison, then on to Chicago for two nights.  Followed that with two nights visiting Bob's brother in southern Indiana.

Bob changing a flat tire less than a mile from his brother's house.  Thank goodness we got a full size spare before we left on the homeless tour.

Arrived in Nashville on Friday the 2nd of September.

Had dinner at Etch in downtown Nashville on Saturday night.  Sat at the chef's counter next to a delightful couple from Memphis.  Had a fun and interesting dinner.
